Authorities in North Carolina say two thieves who robbed a Lenoir County car wash last weekend brought a toddler with them.
Surveillance footage taken at Thomas’ Car Wash in Pink Hill around 10:45 p.m. Sunday shows a young child running from the suspects’ vehicle.
While the two men rob an electronic self-service coin machine, the young girl runs up the coin machine until a woman takes her back to the vehicle.
While the two men used a saw and a bar to pry open four coin machines, the woman proceeds to change the toddler’s diaper on the trunk of the car.
The owner of the car wash told WCTI 12 it is unclear how much money the pair stole, but the damages will cost the car wash at least $5,000.
"Biggest cost is to replace the parts," said Caroline Whitfield, whose family owns the car wash. "We live in a frustrating time. People work hard, others take advantage"
Whitfield is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Pink Hill police are looking for the suspects’ car, a mid-2000 Mercury Milan. Officials say similar car wash burglaries have taken place in Beulaville and Kenansville in the last week.
