Making his first court appearance since allegedly carrying out a mass murder inside a packed Aurora, Colorado movie theater, reporters described the flame-haired James Holmes as dazed, tired and perhaps a bit confused.
According to Fox News, he spent "much of the brief time there looking down or with his eyes closed and his head tilted back."
Prosecutors have 72 hours to file charges against the 24-year-old Holmes, but he won't be formally charged in court until next Monday. Those charges will almost certainly include multiple counts of first degree murder. The death penalty is a possibility, although prosecutors have not made any decision on that particular component of the trial.
Holmes has been held in solitary confinement in jail since he was arrested in the parking lot behind the theater early Friday morning.
