A teenager saved the life of a complete stranger after he blocked her from being crushed by another driver early this year.
Caleb Martin, 18, had just finished up a shift at a McDonald’s in Pegram, Tennessee, when he spotted a woman staggering in the road.
“About halfway up the guardrail, I see a woman in the middle of the road,” Martin told WKRN News (video below).
The woman was Jenna Newman, 28, and her jilted boyfriend, Kenneth Clinton, had just finished shooting her twice before attempting to run her over.
“I see him swerving, I thought he was a drunk driving,” Martin said. “It looked like he was swerving into the woman. By the time I realized what he was doing he already pinned her up against the guard rail.”
Martin noticed that the car driven by Clinton was barreling right towards her. That’s when he drove towards the scene, aiming his car between the woman and Newman. This way, he was able to shield her against her aggressor before honking his horn and yelling at the man.
“It was horrifying,” he said.
He soon called 911 and opened his car door for Newman, WKRN reported. As the woman began frantically begging for help, Martin can be heard on the 911 call reassuring her.
“I will not let you die,” the teenager can be heard telling the woman during the call.
Martin drove the woman to his grandmother's home where he helped stabilize her until paramedics arrived on the scene.
Newman was eventually sent to the hospital where she recovered and was released.
Clinton was later discovered dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
