A South Carolina woman was jailed this week for failing to return a movie she rented from a now-defunct video store when she was teenager.
Kayla Michelle Finley, 27, went to Pickens Country Jail Thursday to report a crime, but police ended up charging her with petite larceny instead.
Police found a warrant for her arrest for failing to return “Monster-in-Law,” a 2005 film starring Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez, to Dalton Video nine years ago.
The former owner of the video rental chain, P.J. Dalton, took the matter to court in 2005 and a judge issued a warrant for Finley.
Finley had been mailed several warnings from Dalton, according to the arrest warrant. She says she never received any of the documents.
“It’s obvious that Pickens County has nothing better to do,” Finley told WHNS. “I fully intend on fighting this, it’s ridiculous I had this happen to me.”
