Veronica Dunnachie was arrested on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, after allegedly shooting and killing her husband Russell and adult stepdaughter.
According to Arlington police, Dunnachie drove herself to a mental hospital after the alleged murders.
Elizabeth Rojas, who is Dunnachie's cousin, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that Dunnachie sent her two young children to school and dropped her third child off at babysitter's house before returning home where she allegedly shot her husband and stepdaughter (video below).
Dunnachie and her husband were reportedly in the middle of a divorce. He had temporary custody of the kids.
Rojas also told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth that Dunnachie had lost weight, was emotionally distant and involved with gun-rights groups.
Liberaland.com noted that Dunnachie participated in open carry rallies that have been staged at companies such as Target, and pictures of her with a gun have been posted online by Open Carry Tarrant County.
C.J. Grisham, founder of Open Carry Texas, posted a note on his Facebook page that some have interpreted as being a comment on the shooting.
"We're treating this right now as a domestic-related homicide,” Arlington Police Sgt. Jeffrey Houston told My Fox DFW.
Dunnachie has been charged with capital murder.
