Authorities arrested a Louisiana priest for possessing more than 500 images of child pornography.
Louisiana State Police arrested Father Felix David Broussard from St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, on July 27 after discovering he was in possession of more than 500 pornographic images involving children, KFLY reports.
St. Bernard parishioners were shocked to hear the news of his arrest.
"If you need help, they help you." said parishioner Trailand Dartez. "You come to church, they talk to you, they give you guidance, advice. For something like this to happen with a pastor like this, it’s heartbreaking. I just feel bad for the church and the community."
The priest, who has been with the church for two years, was immediately placed on administrative leave, according to Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel.
Following Broussard's arrest, Deshotel said "child pornography is a plague," The Advertiser reports.
"My understanding from police I visited with was that the computer was brought in for repairs and the technician there as I think is state law they have a duty to report anything that is illegal," Deshotel said in a press conference, according to KFLY.
The bishop said he never received a complaint about Broussard prior to the incident, but added that "this kind of illness hides itself in a person."
