A Denver mother was arrested this week on allegations that she drunkenly beat her infant daughter to death.
The woman is identified as Kelsy Newell-Skinner. The victim is her two-month-old daughter Natalee Skinner-Hurst.
Young Natalee was taken to the hospital last Saturday morning and declared brain dead on arrival. She had numerous deep bruises and gashes on her body.
In a shocking confession, Newell-Skinner told her boyfriend that she woke up from a night of heavy drinking and found Natalee’s beaten body. She said she “felt horrible” but “didn’t remember anything” from the night before.
After Natalee was pronounced dead, police announced that Newell-Skinner was the main suspect in the case. Only she and her five children were home on the night Natalee was beaten. She is being charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
9News reports she is being held on $500,000 bond.
According to the World Health Organization, 35% of parental child abuse offenders consumed alcohol or drugs at the time of the abuse.
