A mother in Portland, Oregon, was arrested and charged after her baby was found alone in a tent wearing a urine-soaked diaper and thin pajamas.
Taylor Marie Kuhn was reportedly discovered sleeping in a car in her backyard with a meth pipe hidden in her shirt. Officers were called to the scene after neighbors heard the child screaming in the backyard, and Kuhn later told authorities that her baby might have been left alone for as long as five hours in 45-degree weather. The toddler was found in a playpen inside of the tent without a blanket, completely uncovered.
According to neighbor Rick Boardman, drugs were used daily in Kuhn’s house, and a great deal of noise and fighting can be heard from the home on a nightly basis. Boardman said he’s unable to sell his house because of the conditions next door.
“It’s embarrassing to live there, to live next door to them,” he said. “It really is.” According to Boardman, one of the residents in the house — which recently had a large tree fall on it — is the son of the homeowner.
“He won’t let them in the house and they just live in the garage where there’s no water of plumbing or anything else,” he told reporters. “I don’t know where they go to the bathroom.”
According to KOIN, 22-year-old Kuhn was charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment, second-degree child neglect, possession of meth and reckless endangerment. She is currently behind bars and scheduled to appear in court later this month.
