An Oklahoma man is in police custody on murder charges after allegedly killing his stepfather by giving him an “atomic wedgie.”
Former marine Brad Davis, 33, was arrested Tuesday evening in the death of Denver Lee St. Clair, 58, who was found with his underwear over his head so that the waistband was around his neck, NewsOK.com reported.
According to investigators, Davis performed the maneuver on St. Clair after a fight broke out between the two on Dec. 21. Davis claims that he lost his temper when his stepfather started saying derogatory things about his mother.
“I'd never seen this before, but when we first looked at our victim seeing the waistband of his underwear was around his neck,” Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said.
Oklahoma state medical examiner spokeswoman Amy Elliott said Wednesday that St. Clair’s cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and asphyxiation and has been ruled to be homicide.
An atomic wedgie is performed when the aggressor grabs the underwear of his victim and pulls it over his head from behind.
According to court records, St. Clair was under a permanent protective order filed by his wife Tressia St. Clair in 2008. She filed for divorce in 2010, but it was dismissed. Denver St. Clair then filed for a divorce last year.
This is the first reported case of “death by wedgie,” according to BuzzFeed. But the site notes that a 10-year-old boy had to undergo surgery in 2004 after his friends performed a wedgie on him, which lead to a severed testicle.
