Anita Hill is accused of shooting and killing her son's gay lover Jamie Johnson at a truck stop in McCalla, Ala., Monday evening.
Johnson was taken to a local hospital where he passed away.
"This relationship [between Johnson and Hill's son] has caused tension between the suspect who is the mother of the male witness and her son," Sgt. Dale Phillips, of the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit. told My Fox Al (video below).
Hill's son and Johnson had reportedly been together for about four years.
The young men asked Hill to meet them at the truck stop to talk about their conflicts. After a brief conversation, the son went back to his car. When Johnson turned to walk away, Hill allegedly pulled a hand gun, reports AL.com.
"Witnesses at the scene describe that it appeared that the victim in this case attempted to turn and move away from the suspect. At which time she pulled a hand gun and fired one round," said Sgt. Phillips.
Hill stayed at the truck stop until police arrived and arrested her.
She was charged with murder, booked in the Tuscaloosa County jail on a $75,000 bond, which she posted.
"Witnesses have told us the relationship between these two individuals, the two young men, had been at times possibly physical abusive as well as mentally abusive," Sgt. Phillips stated.
