A Michigan man has been arrested and charged after he sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl, causing the child to contract a sexually transmitted disease.
Gillespie allegedly assaulted the girl from January 2013 to September 2013. An investigation led authorities to Gillespie after a doctor’s examination confirmed the child had and STD and Child Protective Services was contacted, WZZM reports.
He has also been charged as a second-time habitual offender for resisting and obstructing police conviction in 2012.
The child’s mother has been cooperative with the investigation from the start, Muskegon County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Timothy Maat said. But police have not said how Gillespie came into contact with the young girl.
The 33-year-old was only recently located by police. He has been arrested and is being held at the Muskegon County Jail as of Oct. 1. His bail is set at $200,000 and he had not yet been arraigned.
Gillespie could serve life in prison.
