A former Saudi Arabian air force sergeant has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of raping a 13-year-old boy in a Las Vegas Strip hotel two years ago.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, County District Judge Stefany Miley sentenced Mazen Alotaibi to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years on Wednesday. He will serve out his sentence at the Nevada state prison.
Alotaibi is alleged to have attacked and raped a 13-year-old boy on December 31, 2012. The horrific attack included forced oral and anal sex, leaving the boy scarred and the victim’s mother sobbing in the courtroom as she recounted the events.
Telling the court that her son “speaks about dying almost every day,” the mother was inconsolable throughout the proceedings.
“He wants to die. he wants to kill himself because he doesn’t think anybody cares or loves him anymore,” she said. “It’s like he’s given up on life. He doesn’t care what happens to him.”
She went on to say she hopes Alotaibi “stays in prison and rots in hell.”
The boy went on to testify that he was waiting to get breakfast when Alotaibi and some other men approached him on that tragic New Years Eve. Smelling marijuana on their clothes, he asked them if he could have some too.
Alotaibi led the boy outside of the hotel and smoked with him. He then solicited the boy for sex.
According to hotel surveillance tapes, he could be seen kissing the boy’s neck on their way back to the hotel room. 30 minutes later, the boy could be seen running out of the hotel room and back to the elevator.
The boy told the court that Alotaibi led him to the hotel bathroom and proceeded to bar the door. He offered him $150, doubled the amount, and then forced the child into oral and anal sex.
“It felt like I was trapped in a corner,” the boy told the court.
According to police, Alotaibi initially denied the claims, but later admitted to raping the boy after he refused sex with him.
He told police that he made the boy perform oral sex “for just a couple of seconds” and “accidentally raped him,” according to the Daily Mail.
Although Alotaibi has received the maximum sentence, the boy and his family will continue to struggle with the nightmare.
“My son is scarred for life,” the mother told the court. “For him, it’s forever. There is no ending to that.”
