The daughter of a woman who was beaten and raped by a 31-year-old Michigan man wished revenge on her mother’s attacker in a public statement in court.
Steve Chambers was convicted to life in prison by the Kent County Circuit Court for beating and raping the 77-year-old woman in her Grand Rapids home. Chambers also stole the woman’s credit card, which was used to track him down.
Judge George Bluth described the incident as “one of the worst, most violent cases” he has seen. Chambers, however, maintains he is innocent and plans to appeal the decision.
The victim’s daughter, however, does not believe Chambers’ claims.
“You are a selfish, self-centered, impatient little child who thinks that he gets to take whatever he wants whenever he wants it. Don’t shake your head at me. You beat this woman to a pulp, you left her for dead after you raped her and you grabbed her purse on the way out, and I hope you get to think about that while someone is raping you. You have chosen to be an animal and to take what you want without thought of what happens to anyone else, and that does not make you fit to live with the rest of us. Think about that for the rest of your life. I laugh at you. You are stuck forever,” the victim’s daughter said in a harsh statement directed towards Chambers, according to WoodTV.
According to the Huffington Post, Chambers was convicted of sexually assaulting a 74-year-old woman in her Detroit home and subsequently sentenced to eight to 20 years in prison. He left on parole in 2012.
