A Virginia couple who was found by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 to have forced their 6-year-old daughter to live in a cage have now been charged with killing their son.
According to the Huffington Post, Brian and Shannon Gore were initially arrested after law enforcement officials entered their house on a search warrant in relation to theft that had recently occurred in the area. Instead, they found the young girl, who has Down Syndrome and cerebral palsy, suffering from starvation and reportedly “covered in feces,” as Lt. Scott Little reported.
That same search resulted in the discovery of the remains of the 7-month-old child Connor Gore in the backyard of the residence. Although the cause of that infant’s death was indeterminable, the couple was sentenced to 30 years in prison for child abuse against their daughter.
The couple has since been charged in connection with their role in Connor’s death. According to the Daily Press, the Gores will each face felony homicide and felony child neglect charges for Connor’s death.
“The grand jury ... was presented evidence in support of the charges. The charges are a result of additional information received about the remains of the child found buried under the shed,” said Gloucester County Attorney Holly Smith.
During the initial search of the couple’s house, police also found a 1-month-old child who was subsequently placed in protective custody.
