Fugitive ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner is believed to have been involved in a shootout in the San Bernardino Mountains on Tuesday.
While police have yet to confirm or deny that the incident took place, a law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity insists that it did.
According to the official’s account, Dorner broke into a cabin and tied up a couple who was residing there. One of the victims was able to get away and notify the authorities, but not before Dorner escaped in a stolen car. Gunfire was purportedly exchanged during a brief pursuit.
A San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman informed the AP that a stolen vehicle report from the residence in question was received at 12:20 p.m.
"The reporting party identified the suspect as looking like Christopher Dorner but that has not been confirmed," Miller said.
The cabin in question is said to be in Big Bear – the area where police had been searching for Dorner since last Thursday.
Prior to this latest development, it was believed that Dorner may have fled to Mexico.
