A popular swimsuit model, who has been dubbed by Esquire as the “sexiest Bulgarian alive,” was arrested Wednesday for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Maxim cover model Ralitsa Ivanova, 29, was pulled over on U.S. 41 near Land O’Lakes, Florida, at 3:45 a.m. after being spotted in her BMW driving in the wrong direction, the New York Daily News reports.
Ivanova told deputies that she was trying to drive from Tampa to St. Petersburg, but claims she kept getting lost because she was texting while driving, ABC Action News reports.
A police spokesman said he “smelled a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” on the model, who had trouble standing when she was pulled over, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office report.
Ivanova tried getting out of being arrested by informing the police that she was a model and also showed them a text from a friend advising her not to take a breathalyzer or field sobriety test.
She “performed very poorly” after initially agreeing to take a sobriety test and was arrested for DUI, according to WTSP.
The model, who began her career at age 15 and moved to the U.S. when she was 19, was released from the Land O’Lakes Jail around 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to jail records, which list her as Ralitsa Ivanoca.
