When Florida woman Ivy Leopold asked her boyfriend to babysit her 5-year-old daughter, she never thought the night would end in death.
“She arrived home from work and realized there was some kind of a disturbance with her (live-in) boyfriend and her daughter, which included him at the time doing harm to her,” Sheriff Ken Mascara told TC Palm.
Leopold immediately called 911. When officers arrived, they found Steve Dormil, Leopold’s boyfriend, sitting on top of 5-year-old Olesia Doug with a knife to her neck. Olesia had several major injuries, but details pertaining to them are currently unavailable.
“The officers, when they arrived, realized this was a very desperate situation, where he was over the victim, and they tried everything in their power to talk him away from her, and he just wouldn’t obey their commands,” Mascara said. “As a result, they had to use deadly force in an attempt to save that little girl’s life.”
Police opened fire and, as a result, Dormil died in the apartment. The officers then immediately attempted to save the girl by running her to the ambulance instead of waiting for EMTs to put her on a stretcher.
Unfortunately, after being taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute, she died either on the night of Nov. 19 or the early morning of Nov. 20.
No one else was injured.
