The body of a missing Arkansas real estate agent was discovered in a shallow grave 27 miles from where she was last seen Thursday and a parolee with a lengthy rap sheet is now facing charges.
Police say Beverly Carter, 49, was kidnapped on Thursday. She was showing a property in Scott, Arkansas, but she never returned home to Little Rock. The door to the house was left wide open and her car and purse were left behind.
Her husband Carl Carter says he later received several strange texts from his wife’s phone, but it didn’t sound like her.
Beverly’s body was found early Tuesday buried at Argos Concrete Company in rural Cabot, 27 miles from Scott.
Arron Lewis, 33, a former Argos employee, was arrested in connection to the case by Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies Monday morning. With the discovery of Carter’s body, he will now be charged with capital murder, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden said in a statement.
When reporters asked why Carter was targeted, Lewis said, “Because she was just a woman that worked alone — a rich broker.”
Lewis reportedly admitted to kidnapping Carter, but denies killing her, ABC News reported.
He did not tell authorities the location of Carter’s body; it was located through a tip, the Daily Mail reported.
Lewis was released on parole in Arkansas in August 2013. His criminal history spans three states and includes charges of felony theft, accomplice to theft, unlawful removal of theft device, and obstruction of government operations, among other counts.
