A 72-year-old man beat off a 275-pound pickpocket last month when he was targeted in a Detroit neighborhood.
Chet Dunham had just finished breakfast when he walked by Jeffrey Darnell Jones, who had been pacing back and forth in the same area for 20 minutes. In video footage of the scene, Jones can be seen reaching into Dunham’s back pocket and attempting to steal the elderly man’s wallet.
Dunham quickly reacted to the thief by swinging his cane at Jones, who backed away and claimed that he was just kidding.
“There’s nobody [who's] gonna have their hand in my pocket without me reacting,” Dunham said of the situation.
Dunham then decided to enter a nearby Bank of America and asked the clerk to call 911. Police soon arrived and Jones was arrested.
Jones was charged with attempted larceny of a person and is currently being held on $5,000 bond at Wayne County Jail.
