South Carolina Mom Kills Woman, Two Children, And Self (Photo)

| by Michael Doherty

A South Carolina mother reportedly killed her two children and then herself on July 13 after shooting a woman dead at her estranged husband's apartment complex.

Jessica Edens, 36, had been involved in a custody dispute with her husband and had previously complained that the man had been having an affair, according to CBS.

Meredith Rahme, 28, the woman that Edens allegedly shot, had reported that she received harassing phone calls and text messages from Edens during the weeks leading up to the shooting.

Police later found Edens in her SUV with her 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in the back seat, all three dead from bullet wounds.

Rahme had previously called police two times to ask what to do about Edens' calls and texts, as well as posts she made online about Rahme.

When an officer visited Edens' home the day before the shooting, she had said that she was going to reveal her husband's affair in court. Rahme had worked with Edens' husband, but he did not disclose any other details about their relationship.

The website Homewrecker.com had a photo of a woman believed to be Rahme, allegedly posted by Edens, with the caption, "This little girl has no self-respect and no morals."

"Remember home wrecker, that karma is a b****, just like you," read the posting. "You will get what you deserve."

"We are confident that Jessica Edens shot and killed Meredith Rahme," said Police Chief Ken Miller, Heavy reports.

"This particular case stems from domestic related separation and subsequent conflict in that separation," Miller added. "It's important to remember here that there are families and fathers who lost young children to the senseless violence."

Miller also said that Edens "had some sense for inflicting violence on either the children or on herself or both and that wasn't discovered until after" police found her and the children dead.

The 9-year-old boy, Hayden King, would have entered fourth grade in the fall at Forest Acres Elementary School. His 5-year-old sister would also have started school there after the summer.

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that took the life of one of our students. Hayden always had a smile for his teachers and friends," said the school's principal, Darian Byrd. "He will be remembered as a happy, caring child who was full of joy. We were looking forward to serving his younger sister, Harper, in Kindergarten in August."

Edens' sister-in-law said that even though she appeared to be suffering, it was no excuse for the murders, which she described as a "complete and utter shock."

"You never think this type of thing will happen in your family," she said. "It is just horrible."
