Two Austin, Texas, police officers were caught on their own dashboard camera joking about rape.
The incident happened in May, but the dashcam video (below) from the officers' patrol car surfaced on Oct. 30 on YouTube.
According to TheFreeThoughtProject.com, one officer said to the other, “Look at that girl over there,” while the second cop blew his whistle.
"Go ahead and call the cops," added the second officer. "They can’t un-rape you."
The first officer then asked, "You didn’t turn your camera off, did you?"
The second officer joked again, "They can’t un-rape you."
Austin Police Department told KXAN in a statement, "Upon learning of the video’s contents, the Department immediately launched an internal investigation. The investigation will include a comprehensive audit of the involved officers’ contacts with victims of sexual assault to ensure the actions taken during the contacts meet the expectations of the Department, the public and most importantly, the victims. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the Department will take appropriate corrective action."
KXAN identified the police officers as Mark Lyttle and Michael Castillo.
The video was discovered by attorney Drew Gibbs of the Carlson Law Firm, who was reviewing the dashcam footage for an upcoming case.
Gibbs said in a statement, “The comments on the video struck me as inappropriate and I chose to allow the court of public opinion to decide if they agreed.”
