27-year-old Shane Carpenter was arrested and charged with poisoning and domestic violence on Thursday after allegedly putting Visine eye drops in his girlfriend’s drink.
Carpenter previously had a fight with his girlfriend and the poisoning was a means of getting back at her, according to Nevada County Sheriff’s Office in Grass Valley, Calif.
Ingesting the eye drops made the girlfriend feel sick, and she became suspicious of her mechanic boyfriend when she found text messages on his phone to his friends about the alleged prank. She then contacted the police.
"He was making texts to his buddies that if 'She's going to be talking crap then she's going to be crapping,'” Lt. Steve Tripp of the Nevade County Sheriff Department told KXTV News 10.
Police had the girlfriend call Carpenter to talk about her suspiscions. "We got admissions from him over the phone, when he was admitting to her, that he had done this," Tripp said.
Carpenter was released from jail Friday after posting a $25,000 bail.
The girlfriend was treated at a hospital and realsed.
