Anti-Gay Pastor Resigns After Website Posts His Grindr Dating Profile (Photos)

A staunchly anti-gay pastor from Midland, Michigan, has reportedly resigned from his position after screenshots taken from Grindr revealed he used the dating app to search for men for oral sex, massages, nude make-out sessions, and cuddling.

Reverend Matthew Makela, who belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church and School's community, is a married father of five who has often commented about the sinful nature of homosexual relationships, reports queerty.com. In addition to posting anti-gay rhetoric in the comments sections of various websites, he also posted this message about the importance of traditional marriage on his Facebook page:

His position on the topic, which reportedly included once comparing homosexuality with alcoholism, made it even more shocking when alleged screenshots of his activity on Grindr were posted online:

In an email exchange with queerty.com, Makela reportedly confirmed the screen captures were authentic, but declined comment. He says he has resigned from his position and that both his wife and the senior pastor are aware of his Grindr activity.

A letter that appeared on St. John's website confirmed Makela's resignation, but asked the congregation to look past the news, reports Time.

"This changes nothing," the letter reads. "Matt is still forgiven and he is still loved, and we will do what we can to stand by him and the family as they face this spiteful attack of shame. God is bigger than this and will see us through."
