Two armed robbers who entered an Indianapolis, IN, home before dawn on Tuesday, November 20, probably didn’t expect to kidnap a 3-month-old baby girl, but they decided to grab the infant from her mother when they discovered there was no money to steal.
They apparently hadn’t done their homework, because they also were unaware that there was a Pit Bull in the back yard.
Nayeli Garzon-Jimenez was at home with her 3-month-old baby girl on West Regent Street when the two robbers broke in. When the sleeping woman was awakened by sounds downstairs in their home, she frantically called the baby’s father, Adolfo Angeles-Morales who was at work.
Adolfo told WISHTV his wife said she heard noises downstairs. He told her to see what it was because he was at work and too far away to help. Then he heard glass smashing.
He told reporters, ‘I hear the noise over my phone and she started screaming and crying, and said, someone just stuck their hand in the door.'
There were two intruders, a male and female. Nayelli said they were yelling in English that they wanted "money, money!" The terrified mother, who only speaks Spanish, told them she didn't have any. They said if she didn’t come up with cash, they would take her baby.
She told reporters the female robber then snatched her child out of her arms. She grabbed the woman's shirt and tried to hold on and fight to get the baby back, but the male robber hit her in the head with a pistol. The pair then ran to the back door to escape, still holding the baby.
That is where they met the family’s blue Pit Bull. Apparently the dog did not have to do more than block the door to get the would-be burglars-turned-kidnappers to stopped cold and reverse their direction of exit.
As the invaders ran back toward the front door, the woman thrust the baby back at her mother. The burglars left with empty hands—no kidnapped baby and no stolen money.
Nayelli Garzon was reportedly treated at Wishard Hospital for a cut to her forehead and some bruises to her body. The 3-month-old baby girl was uninjured.
Indianapolis police are looking for an African-American man around 35 years old, 6-ft, 2-nches, heavy set with light skin, a close-cut beard and acne scars, according to the Daily Mail. He is believed to be armed and dangerous.
The female suspect is a woman in her mid-twenties, about 5-ft, 10-inches tall, and also African-American. She has a heavy build and braided hair pulled back in a pony tail. She had two lip piercings and an eyebrow piercing, according to the description given by the victim.
Adolfo said he is just relieved. He told WishTV.com: 'Thank God everything’s okay, my baby and my wife.'
