It's A Snake-Eat-Snake World, Or So This Discovery Would Make It Seem (Photo)

A man in Greece caught an incredibly bizarre wildlife event on camera recently.

The incident started when Dick Mulder watched as his cat killed a snake. No big deal, right? Cats do stuff like that all the time. But then, minutes after the snake died, it started moving again.

"My wife, who didn't like the idea of a dead snake on her veranda, screeched that the snake wasn't dead—she saw it moving,” Mulder said. “I reassured her that the snake was dead.”

Then, he took a closer look. The snake was in fact moving, but something looked off. It didn’t look like it was moving under its own will. Everything made sense a few seconds later when another snake came crawling out of the dead snake’s mouth.

Luckily for us, Mulder grabbed his camera and was able to snap a picture of the surreal scene:

Andrew Gray, curator of herpetology for the U.K.’s Manchester Museum, notes the small snake must have been recently consumed. Otherwise, he says, it would have been killed by the larger snake’s digestive fluids.

So, who knew snakes were into Matryoshka dolls?
