A Brooklyn man who kicked a stray cat and posted the video to Facebook was arrested and charged, according to the NYPD.
21-year-old Andre Robinson is seen standing in front of a building when he gently lures the cat over to him. Once the cat gets comfortable enough, Robinson instantly kicks it and sends it flying through the air. He and the group of people he’s with can be seen laughing hysterically before the video ends.
Now, police were able to track down Robinson and charge him with aggravated animal cruelty. The man reportedly has eight previous arrests.
According to the New York Daily News, a veterinarian confirmed that the cat sustained serious injuries from the kick.
Following his arrest, Robinson’s mother Mary Kirby, 48, tried to justify her son’s actions.
“He had to be high on something. It’s very out of his character,” said Kirby. “He had to be high to do what he did. This isn’t him. He loves animals. He loved his cats, he had dogs, he always loved them.”
A resident at Robinson’s building said that the cat had been hanging around the area for a while, and she was shocked to learn that the 21-year-old man would do something so senseless and cruel.
“When I see that video, it makes me want to cry,” said 32-year-old Shyvonne. “He kicked him hard. I haven’t seen the cat in a few days.”
Robinson’s prior arrests include a knifepoint robbery in 2011 and an incident where he jumped a turnstile.
