“Lucky,” a Beagle who lives in Newberry Springs, California, made a very unusual find during his routine hunting expedition near his desert home on September 6. He came home with a human footand attached leg bone.
Lucky’s owner, Erica, said she saw Lucky had brought something onto the front porch and expected to see a bird or some other small animal, but she freaked out when she realized her dog had human bones. “It didn’t seem like it was real…It was freaky, scary and I was in shock,” she told reporters.
Erica immediately called the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and investigators came out to search the desolate area of the Mojave Desert near of I-40, about 20 miles east of Barstow. Lucky led them to the location where they found more body parts. However, they said they cannot even determine the race or gender of the remains. They also have not made an announcement as to whether it was one or multiple victims, pending the results of DNA testing.
Detectives are scrutinizing missing person reports and appealing to the public for information.
They are asking anyone with information about the remains or who can in any way help identify the victims to call Detective Randy German or Sgt. Brad Toms at 909-387-3598.
San Bernardino Sheriffs said that anonymous tips can be left on the We Tip hotline, 1-800-78-CRIME.
