The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has reportedly released a video showing the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff. This news comes on the heels of another American journalist, James Foley, being executed by ISIS forces just weeks ago.
Sotloff worked as a freelancer for Time and Foreign Policy. He was kidnapped in Aleppo in August 2013 and had been held by militants since then. Several weeks ago, ISIS released a video threatening to kill Sotloff if the United States did not stop its airstrikes in Iraq.
According to White House press secretary Josh Earnest, the video of Sotloff’s apparent beheading has not yet been confirmed. He told reporters that the Obama Administration was currently working on authenticating the footage.
