A 92-year-old Iraqi farmer married a woman 70 years his junior on Thursday evening, in a village just south of central Iraqi city Samarra.
Musali Mohammed al-Mujamaie was bursting with excitement on his wedding day.
“I feel like a 20-year-old!” he told AFP.
Mujamie was married three years after the death of his first wife of 58 years.
Mujamie was also excited to have been married alongside his two grandsons, ages 16 and 17. Their weddings had repeatedly been delayed so that the three could be married on the same day.
“I am so happy to be getting married with my grandsons,” Mujamie said.
The wedding carried on for four hours with dance performances and celebratory gunfire. Local tribal and religious leaders also attended the wedding to honor the new couple.
Though Mujamie’s new 22-year-old wife Muna Mukhlif al-Juburi refrained from comment, she looks less than pleased in her wedding photos.
Surprisingly, the new couple’s seven decade age difference does not meet the world record for greatest age gap between a couple. Malaysian couple Sudar Marto, 105, and Ely Maryulianti Rahmat, 22, have an 83-year difference and therefore hold the record.
