An 80-year-old Illinois woman has inspired thousands by using Instagram to document her battle with cancer.
Betty Simpson, better known as Grandma Betty, has a following of more than 280,000 on Instagram.
Her 18-year-old great-grandson, Zach Belden, helped set up the account shortly after she was diagnosed as a way to help her celebrate life.
“He loves me so much, that’s why he did it. He doesn’t want to lose me and he’s just good to me,” Simpson told ABC News. “I didn’t even know he was doing this.”
When she hit 2,500 followers she recorded a video of herself dancing to Pharrell’s “Happy.”
“Everybody liked that,” she said. “I got calls from California and all different places. They said they thought that was very cute.”
Pharrell has since followed Grandma Betty.
She says she’s grateful for all the followers and feels like a celebrity herself.
It is unclear what kind of cancer Grandma Betty has, but she can be seen smoking in several of her posts. She says she plans to live out her final days “just being with family” and “living minute to minute.”
