Shocking surveillance video shows a 73-year-old Queens woman being punched in the face by two people who immediately grabbed her purse and fled the scene.
According to reports, the woman, who does not want her identity revealed, was pushing a cart of groceries home from a local store when two people, a man and a woman, approached her, punched her in the face, and stole her purse.
“They have all her ID and her address,” said neighbor Danny Falcicchio to the NY Daily News. “I want these guys to get caught so bad. You've got these predators going around and they get away with this shit. She's scared. I'm scared! I see her all the time pushing the cart. These guys get away with the small stuff and then they mug and hurt people. There's a lot of old people here.”
The elderly victim was treated at Jamaica Hospital for a cut on her ear and lacerations on her arms. Thankfully, her injuries don’t appear to be life threatening.
Police have yet to track down the suspects, but they believe that the two are around 18 years old. Friends say that despite her age, the woman could probably have taken on the robbers if she hadn’t been taken by surprise.
“She was stunned,” said friend Eleanor Caldwell. “She never thought it would happen to her in this neighborhood. She said she could have beat the girl up but they caught her by surprise. She only had $100 on her. She’ll bounce back. She always has a good outlook on everything. Everything is, 'I'm going to get through this.' She bounces back.”
