A British teen is believed to have taken the party drug mephedrone, also known as “meow meow,” before stabbed his mother and cutting off his own penis.
The 19-year-old was found hanging out of his bedroom window in West Sussex, England, with blood gushing from his groin.
His 46-year-old mother called police after he reportedly stabbed her in their Haywards Heath home on Dec. 29.
He and his mother, neither of whom were identified, were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She is currently in stable condition at Royal Sussex County hospital in Brighton, while the teen is also in stable condition University College London hospital.
According to The Mirror, surgeons were able to reattach his penis.
The boy’s neighbor said he’s usually a good kid, but things changed when he came home from college.
“He is normally a lovely lad and very bright. But unfortunately, he had started dabbling in drugs,” the neighbor told The Mirror. “He had come home from university for Christmas. It looks like he took mephedrone and completely flipped out attacking his mum and then himself.”
Mephedrone, referred to as “meow meow,” “drone” or “MCAT,” is the same synthetic stimulant found in “bath salts.”
"When you take the drug you get a massive wave of euphoria from serotonin, which then goes away," Craig Motbey, a researcher at the University of Syndney, told News.com.au. "Then there's a persistent dopamine hook that motivates people to re-dope. Mephedrone is extremely addictive. So people are getting this short-term high, the major thing driving people to take the drug, but then they're re-dosing regularly to get that initial hit back."
