27 homely pooches are competing in the World's Ugliest Dog contest tonight at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California.
Last year's winner was a rescued dog named Peanut (pictured) reported ABC News (video below).
The Associated Press reports that the contestants include Quasi Modo, a pit bull-Dutch shepherd mutt, and Morris, who resembles a pig.
Quasi Modo won second place last year, is the front-runner this year, but is more unusual than ugly.
His Florida owners told WPTV in 2014 that they think of him as half a dog because he is missing some vertebrae (video below).
Dogs (and their owners) have come from across the country to win the $1500 prize.
Lest this sound too cruel, the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds website says there is also a "Spirit Award" that is given to a "dog and owner who have overcome obstacles and/or are providing service to the community based on the dog’s biography."
Many of the canines have faced hard times from puppy mills and abusive owners.
You don't have to go to California to vote, the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds website allows you to get a look at the contestants (if you dare) and vote online.
