Female meteorologist Liberte Chan was beginning her weather forecast on Los Angeles TV station KTLA May 14 when news anchor Chris Burrous handed her a sweater to cover up her sleeveless dress (video below).
"What’s going on?" Chan asked Burrous, notes Raw Story. "You want me to put this on? Why? Because it’s cold?"
Burrous replied, "We’re getting a lot of emails."
"What?" Chan asked. "Really?"
After putting on the sweater, Chan complained, "I look like a librarian."
"That works," Burrous added. "It’s a librarian who’s gone to a cocktail party ... Everyone’s got an opinion about your dress this morning."
Chan told Burrous to come over to her weather map and show the audience the pants that he was wearing, but Burrous said there wasn't enough time.
Chan nervously laughed through her forecast, and added, "I’m trying to hold it together in my little sweater."
Burrous posted a video on his Facebook page on the same day and scolded viewers who were mad at him: "Listen, If you don't get it, you shouldn't be watching the show."
Chan responded to the controversy on her blog May 15:
For the record, I was not ordered by KTLA to put on the sweater. I was simply playing along with my co-anchor’s joke, and if you’ve ever watched the morning show, you know we poke fun at each other all the time.
And, also for the record, there is no controversy at KTLA. My bosses did not order me to put on the cardigan, it was a spontaneous moment.. I truly love my job, I like my bosses and enjoy working with my coworkers. Since talking to my team, I want our viewers to know it was never our intention to offend anyone. We are friends on and off the air and if you watch our newscast, you know that.
More importantly, I hope my viewers were able to plan their Saturday once they heard my forecast and enjoyed the sunny weather after the clouds cleared.
