The Shizuka New York Day Spa in Manhattan is offering a $180 facial treatment that includes excrement from nightingales (video below).
“My mother told me about this treatment,” spa owner Shizuka Bernstein told CBS New York.
The facial bird poop treatment was reportedly used hundreds of years ago in Japan by actors and geishas.
These days, the bird excrement is sterilized via UV to create a powder that is mixed with rice bran to cover the smell. An enzyme in the poop is supposed to keep the human face soft and smooth.
"I try to bring Japanese beauty secrets to the United States," Bernstein told The Associated Press in 2013.
“Fads will come and go, but if you have seen that something has been out there for six to eight months I think it’s pretty safe to try,” Dr. Kavita Mariwalla told CBS New York.
