Malia Obama Seen At Sundance Festival

| by Jordan Smith

Malia Obama, daughter of former President Barack Obama, has been spotted at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

Malia Obama was spotted at the Sundance Film Festival (pictured) over the weekend, just days after it was revealed she landed an internship with producer Harvey Weinstein

The 18-year-old reportedly spent last weekend with her parents following the inauguration of President Donald Trump, according to the Daily Mail.

But as Barack and Michelle Obama left for the British Virgin Islands, where they will vacation on a private island owned by billionaire Richard Branson, Malia flew to Utah for the film festival.

The first screening in which she was spotted was for "Beach Rats," a movie about a young man in Brooklyn who begins exploring his sexuality with older men.

Malia's presence did not go unnoticed by the festival's visitors.

"You know it's going to be a good screening when Malia Obama comes in," wrote Hannah Henry on Twitter, the Mail reported.

Another who caught sight of the 18-year-old, who is currently on an internship with film producer Harvey Weinstein, was talent manager Scott Fisher.

"The only celeb spotting at Sundance that matters to me: Malia Obama having dinner a few tables down. Weinstein internship paying off," he tweeted.

Brett Wagner, a writer and director, posted a picture to Instagram of Malia looking at the screen of her friend's phone. "Best Sundance sighting ever," he captioned the image.

It is not known how long Malia will be working with Weinstein. She is set to attend Harvard in the fall.

Malia previously interned on the HBO show "Girls" in 2015.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malia will start working in Weinstein's New York offices in February. It has not been confirmed where she will be placed, but one source said it could be in marketing or development.

Harvey Weinstein has donated in the past to the Democratic Party, including to Barack's campaigns. His studio, which he runs with brother Bob, produced the Oscar-winning movies "The Artist" and "The King's Speech."

Malia's move into the film industry comes after the 18-year-old spent three months on a secret trip through South America. According to the Mail, she was out having pizza in the town of Tiquipaya the night President Donald Trump won the U.S. election.
