Man Cuts Open Giant Cockroach, What's Inside Is Shocking

| by Sean Kelly

Ever wanted to freak out some party guests? Look no further than a giant Madagascar hissing cockroach cake.

This creepy cake was conceived by food artist Katherine Dey, who's been known to make some remarkably odd food items. The cockroach cake was made with Boston cream filling and modeling chocolate and is guaranteed to make a few party guests squirm.

“I love that strange feeling I get when something looks real but it isn’t,” Dey told Buzzfeed about her concept of baking.

“Or when a cake doesn't look particularly appetizing but it is a cake and it tastes delicious. I like to make people feel two conflicting things at once. The subjects I choose are things that have interested me forever, be it anatomy, mushrooms, or portraiture."

Dey’s inspiration for her cakes comes from a number of places.

“I am inspired by a lot of things. I love that strange feeling I get when something looks real but it isn’t. Or when a cake doesn’t look particularly appetizing but it is a cake and it tastes delicious. I like to make people feel two conflicting things at once,” she said.
