A gesture of kindness from a girl in Indianapolis, Indiana, quickly went viral after her story was shared by the local police department.
A post from the IMPD included a story from Officer Keedy, who wrote of an incident that occurred at a gas station while he stopped to pump gas.
“I was getting fuel at 27/Emerson at the start of my shift when this nice girl and her mother stopped me,” Keedy wrote. “They told me how much they appreciated what we, as police officers, do and that we don't go unnoticed.”
After thanking Keedy for the work he does, the girl informed the officer that she was going to wait with him until he was fueled up so that no “bad guys” snuck up on him. She then bought him a snack and gave him a hug before going on her way.
“It’s because of families like this I go to work every night! And no matter if you hate me or not, you call and need help, I’ll still give my life protecting you. Fight the good fight sheepdogs, families like this want us around!” he wrote.
Keedy’s wife, Lisa, said she was grateful to the girl and her mother for showing their support for her husband.
“Love seeing the community reaching out to police officers in a positive way,” she said.
“At a time when there is much negativity against law enforcement, it is really appreciated to see people who still care about them. Thanks to the little girl and her family for being kind to my officer.”
