'You Worked As Hard As I Have': Father Asks Stepdad To Help Walk Daughter Down The Aisle

Brittany Peck got married in Lorain County, Ohio, last weekend, but as her father, Todd Bachman walked her down the aisle, he surprised everyone by stopping and turning to Brittany’s stepfather, Todd Cendrosky.

"All of a sudden, at the last second, he turned his head to me and grabbed my hand," Cendrosky told Today. "He said, 'Hey, come with me. You've had just as big of a part in raising this child. It's time you and me walk our daughter down the aisle together.’"

The moving scene was caught on camera by wedding photographer Delia D. Balckburn.

Cendrosky was honored Bachman included him.

"Every time we tried on tuxes -- or did some planning -- it crossed my mind that I'd be sitting in the crowd, not walking her down the aisle," Cendrosky told WKYC.

Bachman said it was the best way to thank Cendrosky for being such a good parent to his biological daughter.

"For me to thank him for all the years of helping raise OUR daughter wouldn't be enough," he said. "There is no better way to thank somebody than to assist me walking her down the aisle."

According to Blackburn, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

"He came and grabbed my hand, and said: 'You worked as hard as I have. You'll help us walk our daughter down the aisle,” Cendrosky said. “I got weak in the knees and lost it. Nothing better in my life the most impactful moment in my life.”

The photos have since gone viral, although the men admitted their relationship wasn’t always easy.

"It hasn't always been peaches and any stretch of the imagination," Bachman said.

Still, it was an important moment.

"It was a wonderful day," Bachman told Today of his daughter's wedding. "It's a shame more parents can't set aside their egos for an event like this. Kids should not have boundaries as to who they love and who they care for. Unfortunately, many parents, through their arguing, bickering, want to keep kids closed in.”

Brittany, 21, said having her fathers walk her down the aisle meant the world to her.

"I've dreamed of this, ever since I knew that my stepdad was going to be my second dad," she said. "But I always knew in the back of my head that it wouldn't happen because of the situation in my family and how no one ever got along.”
