Viral Image Stumps Internet Users (Photos)

A seemingly ordinary photo uploaded to social media has gone viral -- and it's easy to miss why.

At first glance, the image looks like a typical vacation picture: four girlfriends posing for the camera in the foreground while a number of people mill about in the background. But upon closer inspection it becomes clear that something is off.

The photo was uploaded to Imgur on June 1 under the caption: "It took me forever to find what was wrong here…"

What’s wrong is that almost every person in the picture's background has the same face.

A skillful photo editor has installed one man's head -- complete with long, curly hair, a yellow headband and a light beard -- onto the bodies of nine different people, some of whom are clearly women. And it's remarkably easy to overlook.

The photo has been viewed more than 490,000 times, with over 700 people posting comments.

"I wouldn't have even known there was something wrong if it wasn't for the title," one user admitted.

Another quoted the opening lyrics from "Mad World" by Tears for Fears: "All around me are familiar faces."

Several people confessed to having been distracted by the girl on the left's backside, which she appears to be deliberately sticking out.

"Love that booty, but then again … EVERY GUY IS THE SAME," someone remarked.

Another commented: "I just kept getting distracted by that booty."

Some people noted that the four girls all look very similar as well, while one user discovered that the photo had been mirrored.

"There is a second thing wrong," that person wrote. "The image is reversed -- all the writing is backwards."

In May, someone uploaded an image to Imgur that seemed to show a man sitting naked on a boat with his legs open. However, a closer look reveals that what appear to be his legs are in fact his girlfriend's legs, which have been extended over his lap.

The photo was viewed over 1.8 million times, with most people surprised by how easily they were taken in by the illusion.

"I went from, 'Oh she's naked' to 'Oh he's naked' to 'Oh,'" one person commented, according to the Daily Mail.

"At first, in the thumbnail I thought he was totally naked," another wrote. "Then I realized that was his hand. Then I clicked it and realized it was her legs. Then I went back to the thumbnail and I thought they must've done that intentionally. Then I clicked it again and realized they didn't. This post has been an absolute emotional rollercoaster for me but without emotions involved cause I really don't care all that much and it was only 10 seconds but then it took me like another minute to write out this comment."
