A man who dined at a Denny's restaurant in Utah left a generous gift for his server, a struggling single mother.
The man walked into the busy restaurant and asked that he be served by a waitress who was a single mother, Mad World News reported April 2. The hostess was surprised by the odd request, but complied and seated him in the section of the restaurant where Crystal, a single mother, worked.
The man reportedly sat alone at his table for two hours, watching other patrons come and go, before getting up and leaving. It was not until he was about to leave when the hostess realized what he had been doing the whole time he was there.
"Seven families came in and ate while you were there and you paid every one of their bills, over $1,000 you paid for people you didn't even know," the Denny's worker wrote in a Facebook post about the incident.
When she asked the man why he had done that, he replied, "Family is everything, I've lost all mine," according to the post.
The man not only paid the tabs of the families who dined at the restaurant, but he also left a heartwarming gift for Crystal, the waitress who served him.
On top of his own bill, which was only $21.34, he left a tip of $1,500 for Crystal.
The single mother, who was living in a shelter with her young son at the time, was extremely touched by the man's act of kindness.
"Crystal told me she prayed the night before for a miracle and God sent you," the hostess wrote on Facebook. "You left before any of us could say thank you, I hope you read this because you're a truly amazing person and you stole the hearts of every one of us here."
The hostess's message was posted to the Love What Matters Facebook page April 1.
The post has since gone viral, receiving more than 312,000 likes and 136,000 shares in three days.
Facebook users writing in the comments section said they were moved by the man's generous actions.
"Just reading this made me tear up!" one poster wrote. "Angels are among us every day, disguised as ordinary people!!"
"These type of stories are in inspiration when there is so much hate and hardships in life," another commenter wrote. "God bless this beautiful person. And be kind to everyone you meet."
