Beyonce made headlines when she announced she was pregnant with twins -- but after she shared her full collection of pregnancy photos, people soon began to realize that it looks like she's been bleaching her skin.
The singer took to Instagram to share news that she and her husband, Jay-Z, were expecting twins -- their second pregnancy that will result in two siblings for their daughter, Blue Ivy.
“We would like to share our love and happiness. We have been blessed two times over. We are incredibly grateful that our family will be growing by two, and we thank you for your well wishes. - The Carters,” she wrote in her Instagram post, accompanied by a photo of herself in lingerie and a veil, pregnant belly totally exposed.
Other pregnancy photos soon followed, with her daughter seen kissing her stomach in one. Other photos show the star half naked in various poses, including one that appears to be underwater.
“Mother is a cocoon where cells spark, limbs form... Mother swells and stretches to protect her child, mother has one foot in this world and one foot in the next, mother, black venus,” she wrote in one post.
In comments posted on social media, many pointed out that the singer appeared to have either bleached her skin or the photos were heavily digitally edited by the photographer.
“She’s either been airbrushed or she’s bleaching her skin,” one Daily Mail reader wrote on the site’s Facebook page.
“Jeezus! Since when was Beyonce whiter than me???” another questioned.
“She is bleaching her skin!” another viewer wrote.
Other readers felt as though the singer was taking such provocative photos simply for attention.
“It’s only been 24 hours and I have had enough,” one viewer wrote. “How about just saying I am pregnant without these tacky photos. She is always seeking attention.’
Beyonce’s motherhood hasn’t always been easy. Prior to Blue Ivy, the former Destiny’s Child singer had a miscarriage and later shared her story.
“About two years ago, I was pregnant for the first time. And I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life,” she said at the time, Daily Mail reported.
“I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like. I was feeling very maternal. I flew back to New York to get my check up - and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat. I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I've ever written in my life. And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album. And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I've ever been through.”
