In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Betty White reveals that her biggest regret in life is wasting a year not marrying the love of her life.
The interview, part of Oprah’s “Where Are They Now?” segment on the OWN network, left many viewers in tears as legendary actress Betty White admits that, at 93 years old, her biggest regret is not marrying her late husband, Allen Ludden, sooner.
“At 93, do you have any big regrets?” Oprah asked.
“That I spent a whole year, wasted a whole year, that Allen and I could have had together, saying no, I wouldn’t marry him,” White explained. “No, I won’t. No, I won’t leave California. No, I won’t move to New York. I wasted a whole year we could have had together. But we made it. We finally did.”
After first meeting when she was a contestant on “Password,” the TV show he hosted, and marrying in 1963, Ludden and White lived a happy life together for 18 years until he died of cancer in 1981.
White previously said that after Ludden’s death, she vowed never to remarry, at one point telling Larry King, “Once you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?”
