Congratulations Timberwolves fans, yet another unproven point guard will soon be Minnesota-bound.
According to multiple reports, Ricky Rubio has finally agreed to join the Wolves club that chose him with their fifth overall selection in the 2009 NBA Draft. He is set to make his highly-anticipated debut at the beginning of next season, which at this point, given the precarious situation surrounding the labor agreement, could be later than expected.
With this deal in place, Rubio and Minnesota officially end their somewhat uncomfortable, drawn-out negotiations. At various points over the last two years, it was speculated that the real sticking point preventing the arrival of the flashy Spanish point guard was not the steep buyout that was attached to him or some sort of unwavering commitment to his club, but rather that he simply did not want to play for the Timberwolves.
Rubio will play out his time for Regal Barcelona and attempt to guide his club through the Spanish league playoffs before an official announcement is made.
Timberwolves spokesman, Mike Cristaldi, declined to comment on the situation.
