Was Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick doing anything wrong by hosting a 30th birthday party last Thursday night at Guadalajara restaurant in Newport News, VA? Not necessarily. Even though his cousin Quanis Phillips (who Vick is not allowed to be hanging around with as dictated by the terms of his federal probation) was shot outside at 2:10am, it doesn’t mean Vick was involved.
Surely, his own people have said that they left long before the shooting. So there shouldn’t be a problem, right?
Well….not exactly. According to restaurant spokesman Allen Fabijan, they have video that shows Vick and his peeps leaving the club at 2:07am. That’s three minutes before the shooting. That’s hardly what Vick’s team has been saying.
“You can see everybody duck at 2:10,” Fabijan said of people on the video. “I’m not saying that Michael Vick did the shooting. But he did not leave (long) before” as Vick’s attorney said his client told police Monday.
“I stand by what I said, that Michael was long gone before the shooting, does not know who did the shooting and had nothing to do with the shooting,” Larry Woodward said Tuesday. “Anyone who says any different better be very careful.”
Well, the video was turned over to police. So Woodward should be careful as well.
OTR’s point here is that even if Vick did nothing wrong, BS’ing the cops about what really happened all of sudden becomes “doing something wrong.” As it is, there are many people who think Vick is a bad person who doesn’t deserve a second chance in the NFL. If it comes out that he, A. Had something to do with the shooting, B. Lied to police, or C. All of the above, he’ll be in serious hot water with the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles and life in general.
And about the story that there was a dispute between Vick and Phillips, Fabijan didn’t know anything of it.
“We know of no incident between him and Michael Vick,” Fabijan said. “It was a flawless night until the shooting.”
We really don’t think Vick was involved in the shooting. That’s just our gut. But, if hard evidence shows that Vick isn’t being 100% truthful about what he knows, well that’s a different story. Vick is on such a short leash – pun intended? – that if he even lies about how many hot dogs he downed at a BBQ he could be bounced from the league.
