Adam Saleh and Sheikh Akbar recently posted a video on YouTube to prove there is anti-Muslim racial profiling committed by the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
While there have been verifiable cases of racial profiling by the NYPD, this video (below) is raising eyebrows.
According to The Huffington Post, Saleh and Akbar staged a fake argument (with shoving) in front of a NYPD officer, who didn't seem to be concerned.
About 20 minutes later, Saleh and Akbar staged another argument dressed in Arab clothing, which immediately got the cop's attention.
“Why are you dressed like this?” says the police officer who searches the young men for weapons.
Mirror.co.uk reports that the "shocking video that apparently shows a New York police officer pushing two Muslim men up against a wall just because of how they are dressed has sparked fury online."
However, PhotographyIsNotaCrime.com notes that the police officer's face is blurred out, which would defeat the purpose of exposing racial profiling. Also, the officer turns his back on one of the men while frisking the other, a move that seems to be out of place. Thirdly, the cop doesn't call for any backup even though he is outnumbered.
“What you just saw is what we always go through when we’re filming with our cultural clothing on,” Saleh states in the video, which may mean the "racial profiling" could be a re-enactment.
