After two difficult pregnancies, a Pennsylvania couple instantly felt reassured when they took a look at their third daughter's sonogram and were surprised to spot what they say is a clear image of a man watching over the fetus.
"When I [saw] it, it almost brought tears to my eyes," father Zac Smith told WPMT. "I was speechless, I just couldn't believe it, I really didn't believe what I was seeing."
Smith said that as soon as he laid eyes on the image, he knew that the figure was "the angel or God or Jesus, however you want to propose it, I look at it as my blessing."
"This is distinct -- I mean, there's another face looking at my daughter!" he recounted of the sonogram.
Neither Smith nor his partner, Alicia Zeek, are very religious, but both said that they can clearly see a robed man wearing a crown of thorns in the image.
"When they gave it to us… to me, it's Jesus," Zeek said. "And it looks like Jesus … I blinked a lot, to kinda make sure I was really seeing it."
The couple said that the image has kept them calm throughout the pregnancy, particularly since Zeek's first two deliveries were far from easy. Her daughter was born with two thumbs on one hand -- a condition known as pre-axial polydactyl -- and her son not only had a cleft lip and palate but also came with a difficult delivery.
During the ultrasound, the technician said that the baby girl looked healthy and normal, which the couple said was a huge relief.
"Once she said everything is good and we looked at the picture, I was like: 'Look babe, we have nothing to worry about,'" Smith said.
Internet users can't quite decide what's going on in the image. Many agreed that it resembled a human figure, though not everyone thought it was Jesus, based on the Facebook comments on a post from WPIX.
"So this is what's going in the streets?" joked one person. "Jesus is now hanging out in women's wombs?"
Another said that if it really was Jesus, he would likely have darker skin, while a fair few thought that the figure looked sinister -- like Leatherface from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre."
"It's all perspective to the fallible human eyes!!" wrote another. "Just as when you're given the psychological Rorschach [inkblot] tests... what is viewed is interpreted differently by each individual."
"Sad World," said another. "People where is your faith? Miracles happen everyday. God bless their baby."
Zeek gave birth to baby Briella on Aug. 23, and the mom and daughter are happy and healthy, according to the BBC.
