Evangelist Billy Graham told a terminally ill woman to change her attitude because she was depressed during the Christmas holiday.
The woman told Billy in his syndicated advice column on Dec. 20, 2016, that this Christmas would likely be her last: "The doctors tell me this will be my last Christmas (because of an inoperable brain tumor). I know I ought to force myself to act cheerful and pretend I’m enjoying the holidays, but I just can’t do it. How can anyone in my situation be cheerful at Christmas?"
According to the Bowling Green Daily News, Billy told the woman that his heart went out to her, and that he would be praying that she changes her attitude: "But my prayer is that this will become the best Christmas you have ever experienced! And it can be – not because your situation changes, but because your attitude changes. And this can happen, as you ask God to help you look on your life this Christmas from His point of view instead of your own."
Billy told the woman that she needed to become a Christian, and have her sins forgiven so that she could go to be with God in heaven.
In more religious news, Billy's son, Franklin Graham, applauded U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor, who blocked an Obamacare rule that covers transgender health care and abortion-related services on Dec. 31, 2016.
White House spokeswoman Katie Hill slammed the ruling: "Today's decision is a setback, but hopefully a temporary one, since all Americans - regardless of their sex, gender identity or sexual orientation - should have access to quality, affordable health care free from discrimination," notes Reuters.
However, Franklin cheered the ruling on his Facebook page on Jan. 3:
We have Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. District Judge Reed O'Connor to thank for a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking a new Obamacare mandate that would’ve made taxpayers fund transgender reassignment surgeries and abortions. I applaud their actions to block this ridiculous ruling. It was a close one, with the new law set to go into effect on Jan. 1.
Taxpayers shouldn’t be paying for transgender surgeries and abortions. And doctors who disagree—medically or because of their religious beliefs—shouldn’t be forced to perform them as Obamacare would have dictated. Believe it or not, this new rule put forth by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services defined "sex" to include a state of mind, not a biological fact.
Wow. It said sex means one’s "internal sense of gender which may be male, female, neither, or a combination of male and female." Come on. The Obama administration has pushed this agenda way too far. We need to pray for our leaders in Washington and for President-elect Donald J. Trump, Vice President-elect Mike Pence that their new administration will be able to work with Congress to fix a broken healthcare system so that it will work for Americans.
