Most Americans had never heard of Benghazi, Libya prior to the attack on a U.S. consulate that killed four American diplomats there last year.
But more than a year later, Republicans still cling to the conviction that the Obama administration is engaged in a massive cover-up of what happened in Benghazi — and now the CIA is muzzling it own employees from talking about it.
On Monday, a Republican congressman alleged that one CIA employee has been suspended for not signing a gag order about the attacks.
The congressman from Virginia, Frank Wolf, led a meeting at the Heritage Foundation, a leading right-wing think tank, on Monday to release as many allegations about the alleged cover-up as possible.
Wolf’s bombshell was that, according to him, the CIA had already suspended one employee who refused to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement preventing him from talking about the events in Benghazi that took place on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
In August, CNN reported that CIA employees with possible knowledge about the Benghazi attacks were forced to take frequent polygraph tests to insure that they weren’t talking to Congress or the media about what they knew.
Now Wolf (pictured) alleges that the CIA employees must sign NDAs as well, and that the consequences of refusal are grave.
“The reports on the NDA are accurate,” Wolf said at the Heritage Foundation meeting. “We’re getting people who call.”
Earlier, Wolf had said, “My office received a call from a man saying that he knew a CIA employee who has retained legal counsel because he has refused to sign an additional NDA regarding the Sept. 11, 2012, events in Benghazi.”
Wolf also said he confirmed the second-hand tip with the lawyers of the CIA employee in question, who told him, “Her client is having an issue with the agency and the firm is trying to address it.”
The CIA has denied administering polygraphs to its employees and says that it has cooperated with congressional inquiries into the Beghazi attacks.
At the Heritage Foundation meeting, speakers also charged that the Obama administration has a policy of actively arming al-Qaeda.
One speaker, Clare Lopez, a former CIA employee, asked, “Are we involved in the Middle East to help the forces of Islam, of al-Qaeda, of the Muslim Brotherhood, of jihad and sharia?”
