Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas took a shot at Donald Trump during the final GOP presidential debate of 2015 on Dec. 15, saying he would build a wall and have the real estate mogul pay for it.
“If I’m elected president, we will secure the border, we will triple the border patrol, we will get a wall that works, and I’ll get Donald Trump to pay for it,” Cruz said — with the audience, and Trump himself, erupting in laughter, USA reports.
“I’ll build it!” Trump responded.
The lighthearted jab was one of few throughout the course of the evening, with Cruz going head-to-head with Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida on various issues.
“I understand Marco wants to raise confusion,” Cruz said regarding both candidates’ positions on immigration. Cruz maintained that he “led the fight against” Rubio’s “legalization and amnesty” proposal.
“I have never supported legalization, and I do not intend to support legalization," Cruz added. "Let me tell you how you do this, what you do is you enforce the law."
